It is the mission of the Danville School to create a safe environment where each individual can grow intellectually, socially, and emotionally. We create a community of learners by emphasizing learning, respect, confidence, and individual excellence.

We believe…

  • Danville graduates will write clearly and read effectively.
    • Therefore to support this vision, we as educators will  provide multiple opportunities through instruction and practice to debate, write, inquire through talk and practice; to analyze opinions, hypotheses, results and consequences in the inquiry and revision process.
    • therefore Danville will provide instruction including “a range of research-based instructional practices that most effectively improve student learning” (VT EQS 2020.1)
    • therefore, “each school shall enable students to engage annually in rigorous, relevant, and comprehensive learning opportunities that allows them to demonstrate proficiency in literacy (including critical thinking, language, reading, speaking and listening, and writing) (VT EQS 2120.5
  • Danville graduates will develop arguments based on analysis of evidence.
    • therefore we will provide multiple opportunities through instruction and practice to debate, write, inquire through talk and practice; to analyze opinions, hypotheses, results and consequences in the inquiry and revision process
    • therefore Danville will provide instruction including “a range of research-based instructional practices that most effectively improve student learning” (VT EQS 2020.1)
    • therefore, “each school shall enable students to engage annually in rigorous, relevant, and comprehensive learning opportunities that allows them to demonstrate proficiency in transferable skills (including communication, collaboration, creativity, innovation, inquiry, problem solving and the use of technology) (VT EQS 2120.5)
  • Danville graduates will work collaboratively and seek experience to support their goals for the future
    • therefore we will provide multiple opportunities through instruction and practice “leadership by being able to control and encourage a group or place and be able to make crucial decisions and always be supportive”.

    • therefore we will provide pathways and opportunities for students to seek learning experiences, teachers and mentors outside the classroom or the school building

    • therefore we will provide multiple opportunities through instruction and practice

    • therefore our Advisory program will provide time and guidance for students to consider and plan pathways in an environment of collegiality and trust
    • therefore our Advisory program, student activities and clubs will encourage all students to be involved, create, try new things

  • Danville graduates will advocate for themselves and others and contribute to the enhancement of community life

    • therefore we will offer courses to enhance students’ understanding of technology in their future college and career work
    • therefore we will partner with our local technical education center, VTVLC and Dual Enrollment options to expand students’ access to technology and tech education
    • therefore we will encourage our teaching and practice to be service-oriented, always asking ourselves how this knowledge and experience can help others and the world around us
